There’s No Such Thing as Packaging Waste

I’ll be honest: The phrase “packaging waste” makes me nuts. No matter where packaging is in its lifecycle, it is a resource: After its intended life as a container it can be reused, recovered for its material value, or recovered for its energy value. (And yes, in certain cases, it can be composted, primarily in an industrial facility.)

As an industry, we need to do a better job of communicating that packaging has value as a protective container, supplier of usage and preparation information, freshness and safety extender, and also as a reducer of economic, environmental, and social waste.

To learn more, please check out our brochure entitled The Hidden Value of Packaging. I promise much more information on this subject in the near future.
