State Timelines

Packaging producer responsibility will officially begin in the U.S. in July 2025 when Colorado and Oregon start collecting fees from producers. Maine and California will follow over the next two years. Before then there are several decisions to be made, organizations to approve and rules to be decided. Hear from the four states that have passed packaging producer responsibility laws to learn what to expect for the next three years, how you can prepare and how you can help define these programs.  Participants will walk away with materials to help identify key dates and resources.

Pulling the Data Together

Wednesday, March 20

Do you know what data you need and to whom to report it? This session will introduce participants to the role of the producer responsibility organization (PRO) and how they will help streamline program reporting and fees. We will also discuss the types of data needed, and how the packaging value chain from raw material providers to waste haulers may be required to support producers with additional data. This is an essential webinar to attend if you are struggling on how to prepare for packaging producer responsibility, and it may even help you with other reporting mechanisms like post-consumer content and ESG.

Learnings from Needs Assessments

Wednesday, May 22
1pm ET / 10am PT

If the objective of packaging producer responsibility (or EPR) is to help drive innovation and investment into the packaging recovery system, having a baseline understanding of the system and its needs will help inform how fees are spent efficiently to help meet program goals. Many states have required these assessments which are just starting to be completed. Join us in a discussion on key findings, and what this data means for eco-modulation, fee-setting, investments needs and other program elements.
